Founded in 1922 and located in the heart of Silicon Valley, the Mountain View Chamber of Commerce (MVCoC) is a membership based non-profit organization that integrates over 600 businesses, local non profits, government, and mission-driven industries to enhance the economic vitality of the city and the region. The Chamber is also responsible for a Foundation that offers a leadership program (LMV), educational scholarships, support for local emerging artists, and the Mountain View Visitor Center.
Events and Marketing Manager
Overview of Position: The Events and Marketing Manager will be in charge of producing, marketing and executing a diverse array of events, programs and materials that drive traffic to local businesses; provide revenue opportunities for the Chamber and its members; increase the positive reputation of the Chamber, City, and region; and generate joy and engagement for the local community. This unique role combines operational excellence with marketing acumen in both online and offline scenarios. The successful candidate will have proven experience with sizeable in-person gatherings, virtual events, and social media, as well a highly creative and nimble mind to envision new strategies and programs amid rapidly changing circumstances.
The position requires substantial presence physically in Mountain View, California. Please do not apply if you do not live in the San Francisco Bay Area. Relocation accommodations are not available.
Responsibilities:
Event Planning and Management
- Develop and execute annual strategic plan and calendar for events. Includes (but not limited to) logistics management, collateral creation, budgeting and expense management, vendor and facility collaboration, permits, layout, auctions/raffles, rentals, securing/managing volunteers as needed, and event agenda and flow. For awards presentations, manage nomination and selection processes.
- Strong collaboration - both strategically and operationally - with diverse stakeholders, including but not limited to, City departments, chamber members, merchants, vendors, suppliers, volunteers and attendees.
- Successfully execute 6 annual signature events for the Chamber, as well as a handful of smaller events such as mixers. Note: Most signature events range from 100-700 attendees; the Annual Art & Wine Festival attracts more than 170,000 over two days, and Oktoberfest more than 12,000 over two days.
- In partnership with the Membership Director, manage an engaged voluntary ambassador team who assist with onboarding new members, promoting our activities, and directly supporting our events
- Recruit, train and manage volunteer corps of 200-400 for our larger events
- Maximize and measure the strategic and financial impact of all events and programs.
- Review and approve online community calendar submissions.
Marketing
- Design and produce printed and online materials, including flyers, event collateral, and advertising
- Post regularly on various social platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook); Assist in the development and support of social media and marketing campaigns that raise the visibility of the Chamber, create buzz and enhance member engagement.
- Update website regularly, especially for current events and promotions. Includes creation/updating of specific landing pages for events
- Update marketing collateral as needed
Operations
- Day to day operational duties as required for a small organization
- Oversight and proper categorization of expenses
- General member support, including greeting visitors, answering questions, and directing as appropriate
- With CEO, provide yearly Visitor Center report to the City
Knowledge and experience required:
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a 4-year degree – preferred in marketing, communications, or management
- 3-5 years of proven success developing and executing events and programs for small businesses that drive both physical and virtual traffic
- Exceptional project development, coordination and organizational skills, including managing external contractors. Ability to plan well, document well, pivot well, and deliver well.
- Thrive in highly active environments where several major activities happen simultaneously. Skill in problem solving, creating contingency plans, and handling emergencies when necessary. Able to wear multiple hats and fill in gaps where needed.
- A solid operational mind. Detail-oriented and also understand the big picture. Make sound prioritization recommendations and decisions, and communicate them effectively. Reports maintained and communicated with accuracy and timeliness
- Ability to work both independently and as a team member. Demonstrated ability to foster relationships and build community relations.
- Design sensibility and the skills to create compelling visual creatives and basic collateral
- Facile with Social Networking platforms, especially Linkedin, Instagram, and Facebook.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including videoconference situations
- Experience working in a non-profit environment is a plus
- Expertise with the following software is highly desirable: Zoom (full features), Canva, Adobe, Chamber Master, Google G-Suite, QuickBooks
Compensation and Benefits
This position is full-time, exempt. Salary is $75,000/yr based on experience, plus health insurance benefits and retirement plan. Generous vacation package including one week at Thanksgiving and the last two weeks of December. Commute and phone allowances are available. Some remote work is permissible, although majority of time will be in person. The Manager reports directly to the President & CEO.
