The Board of Directors is the policy-making body of the Chamber of Commerce, operating in accordance with the Chamber Bylaws. Its members represent the business and professional leadership of the community.
The Board consists of fifteen to twenty-one members who serve three-year staggered terms (maximum two consecutive full terms) which officially begin on January 1 of each year.
Board Member Qualifications
- Willingness to spend the time and effort to fulfill responsibilities
- Ability to work constructively with the staff, committees and other Board members
- Background that provides sound judgment in problem-solving and policy-making
- Demonstrated commitment to Chamber mission and values
- Adds or maintains balance to the composition of the Board
- Chamber member in good standing
- Must be part of an operating business
Board Member Responsibilities
- Represent the interests of the membership of the Chamber, as well as the community
- Be guided by the Chamber mission, values and operating principles
- Stay informed on all issues and uphold policies determined by the Board
- Review financial considerations and provide input to maintain fiscal well being of the Chamber
- Contact members on occasion for specific purposes
- Make best efforts to attend the following meetings:
- Monthly Board meetings (3rd Wednesday at 8:00am). Attendance can be in person or virtual. After three consecutive unexcused absences, the bylaws permit the board to remove the board member. Please read all minutes and reports prior to Board meetings
- Annual Planning Conference (typically October)
- Annual Celebration of Leaders Dinner (May)
- Annual Mixer and Holiday Party (December)
- Art & Wine Festival (weekend after Labor Day in September)
- Participate on committees:
- Work with at least one Chamber committee related to your areas of interest
- Serve on ad-hoc committees and task forces by appointment of the Chairman of the Board
- As time permits, recommend participation at least once/year in:
- Business Issues & Public Policy Committee meeting (in-person or virtual)
- Mixers (generally once a quarter)
- Leadership Mountain View Program and/or Graduation
- City Council meeting
