Two new works in development will receive staged readings from accomplished actors at Pear Theatre's “Fresh Produce” weekend this November. On the docket are “The Queen's Cookies, or Cymbeline Simplified” by Carol Wolf, and “Mothers of the Bride” by Meghan Maugeri. “The Queen's Cookies” is a flippant take on classical texts, frequently making fun of dramatic convention even as it tells the story. In “Mothers of the Bride,” an audience favorite at last spring's Pear Slices, a young woman is picking out her wedding dress with both her mother and stepmother in tow, and trying to keep the peace between the two. Both Wolf and Maugeri are members of The Pear Playwrights Guild, a peer group which provides writing support and development opportunities for local playwright members.
