You are invited to a community meeting in advance of the opening of the Mountain View Cold Weather Shelter, for its third year of operation serving single women and families, starting on Monday, December 2nd. There will be two community meetings: Thursday, November 14th, at 10:00am and at 6:00pm at the Mountain View Campus of the Los Altos United Methodist Church, at 748 Mercy Street in the sanctuary. Representatives from Santa Clara County, Supervisor Simitian’s office, and HomeFirst, the non-profit operating the shelter, will be there to answer questions and hear community comment. Like in prior years, the Cold Weather Shelter Program will provide nightly shelter and meals along with restrooms, shower facilities and case management during the winter months for up to 50 people, as many as 10 families and the balance will be single women. Participants will be accepted by referral only (no walk-ins) and will have to leave at a designated time each morning. The program will be operated by HomeFirst, a non-profit agency with 30 years experience operating winter shelters. Other collaborating agencies include: Community Services Agency, Hope’s Corner, County Office of Supportive Housing and West Valley Community Services. A number of community members and businesses volunteered to support the shelter in its first two years of operation. If you are interested in volunteering with the shelter this year, please visit https://www.homefirstscc.org/volunteer or email volunteer@homefirstscc.org.
